Imagine the actors of the Roman era uttering verses from ancient tragedies at Plovdiv Roman Theatre. Built in the beginning of the second century CE, this is one of the best-preserved antique theaters in the world. Sit on marble seats with a view of a two-story construction called a skene--the actors' dressing room. Look for the excavated inscriptions and statues on the stage, which were incorporated into the building's architecture after its reconstruction. Today, the theater serves the city's contemporary cultural life and seats about 500 people. Stop at the entrance for informational materials.     Constructed during rein of Emperor Domitian 90 AD and still in use the Theater is one of the best preserved Roman structure in the world.
