I am writing a review not because I have been to Parco Archeologico di Ostia Antica recently but because I forgot to write a review. Parco Archelogico is right outside of Rome and I heard people... more »

Easy to get to from Rome Termini station changing at Eur Magellan or Piramid. We had a full day out here as there is a lot to see. We took a picnic for flexibility and there are lots of areas under.... more »

A really pretty preserved town and well worth a visit. The site is huge - I gave it two hours but you could spend much longer. Even on a weekend in the middle of the day there were very few people there. Unfortunately there is a horrible lack of information provided, and so it's not always clear what you're looking at which is a shame - I guess a ploy to sell you the audio guides as well. There is very little shade, so make sure you have sun cream, a hat, and bring your own water (I couldn't find any fountains), and if you have the motivation, get there early. A decent pair of shoes are also good to deal with the uneven cobbles

This place was great. Walking along the same Roman road as others have done over a couple thousand years, stepping off the path to duck into an arched doorway that turns out to be an ancient tavern, and getting lost amid the brick walls only to find yourself gazing down upon the most beautiful mosaic floors you've seen outside of history books. Ostia Antica is quiet, uncrowded, and so well preserved that you'll think you're about to meet a Roman around the corner. But since there are no guides, and signage is hit or miss, you'll need to use your imagination or at least read up on it ahead of time. Highly recommended and the kiddies are free to run around at will. There are also potable water pumps throughout the site, so bring your water bottle!
