Once a Roman circus, Piazza Venezia is now one of the city's busiest thoroughfares and historic centers. Visit the square to admire Il Vittoriano. This massive, pantheon-style marble monument is dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele II, united Italy's first king. Climb to the top for a different vantage point of the plaza's architecture. Visit the Palazzo Venezia, constructed in the 15th century by future Pope Paul II, as well as the 1,900-year-old Trajan's column, a Roman victory monument. The square is a major traffic intersection, so be careful when crossing the streets. To visit Piazza Venezia on your holiday in Rome, and find out what else Rome has to offer, use our Rome.
