Throw a coin over your left shoulder into Trevi Fountain, the legend claims, and you are sure to eventually return to the city. Undoubtedly one of the most photographed sites in the city, the fountain was designed by architect Nicola Salvi and built in 1762. Standing at 26 m (86 ft) high and 49 m (161 ft) wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city. Fans of Italian cinema easily recognize this site, which has appeared in numerous notable films, including director Federico Fellini's famed "La Dolce Vita." Trevi Fountain Reviews
Impressive when lighted up at night, it's easy to catch the lights during fall and winter as day is shorter. One of the must see fountains alongwith Piazza Navona. more »

Anyway, what I want to tell you is that you are very careful with the photographers of the place are very abusive, they approach you and pretend that they want to help you and tell you that they take your picture (especially they approach couples and families because the selfie because it does not fit very well) and it is they make very fools to want to charge you for taking your photo "with your own cell phone or camera" some take the famous instant photo but charge 5 euros is a complete abuse, do not fall!!! Unfortunately we saw several people fall and it's not fair...
Walking in Rome is fun. You see so much more when you walk. You get close to the locals and learn and taste the authentic flavors of Italian food. Trevi fountain is on huge attraction. And there are many paths to take you there. Google map does a pretty good job of finding a walking path to it.
I had the pleasure of visiting this place twice. Once in winter and another in summer and the difference is night and day! The crowds in the summer are unbelievable. You won't be able to frame a good shot or even go close. However, it is a marvelous fountain with fascinating sculptures! Try going at night too for a different perspective.
