Cattedrale di Trani, Trani

#1 of 171 in Things to do in Province of Barletta-Andria-Trani
Must see · Church · Tourist Spot
Just next to the sea, Romanesque Cattedrale di Trani was constructed from local Tufa limestone, which gives the structure its light pink, almost white color. Evidence of the first house of worship on this spot goes back to the fourth century, though the church as we see it now was begun in 1099. Simple in style, it remains imposingly beautiful inside and out. Climb the bell tower, added between 1230 and 1239, for views of the sea and city below, or descend into the crypt, which remains just as it was built almost 1,000 years ago. • A very nice and unusual cathedral / church. It is worthy for its specific architecture and its look. The crypt and the hypogeus are free also. The whole visit would be about 10-20 minutes.  more »
