Trip Planner: Asia / Japan / Kanto / Tokyo Prefecture / Tokyo / Shinjuku / Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden
Originally constructed for the private residence of "daimyo" (feudal lord) Naito in the Edo period, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden has served as a public park under the Ministry of the Environment since its reconstruction after World War II. Tour the park to see its three main sections: a traditional Japanese garden dotted with ponds intercepted by islands and bridges; a symmetrically planned French garden; and an English garden with sweeping lawns and cherry blossom trees. Stop by the greenhouse to inspect the permanent and special exhibits of tropical flowers. Costs 500 yen for an adult to enter the park. I believe that is worth it considering how pristine the park is and how beautiful it is to walk around. So many different gardens to see and incredibly beautiful in Autumn! The greenhouse was another building in the park that showcases a number of plants and flora. Really lovely scenery.
This is one of the most beautifully presented gardens in Japan. Everything is culturally at balance with nature here, you can't help but be relaxed and at peace. It's very clean and has a true representation of Japan clean, balanced and intricate. It is a must see when visiting Tokyo. The garden features a variety of cafe's and souvenir shops to stop by and scope out a good amount of items.
