Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic
A World Heritage Site, Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic plays home to one of Buddhism's most important relics, the tooth of the Buddha himself. Originally constructed in 1595, the temple played a key role in the nation's history, as local tradition held that the right to rule to country lay with the one who possessed the Buddha relic. You can enter the main hall of the temple and admire its vaulted ceilings and columned hallways adorned with golden statues of elephants, likenesses of the Buddha, and scenes from his life. Though you can't actually see the tooth itself, you'll get a chance to observe the gold casket that encloses it. Afterwards, you can wander the rest of the temple complex and discover its array of shrines, halls, and displays. Plan my trip to Kandy with suggested itineraries provided by Inspirock.

It is an important place to Sri Lanka both historically and as a sacred place to Buddhists. Personally I find it very calming to be visiting here and worshipping the sacred tooth of Lord Buddha. The architecture and the history behind this building is amazing. Wandering through the areas open to public will give one a glimpse of the palace and its magnificence. Apart from history and beauty, for a visitor its important to understand that this can be pretty crowded. And visitors needs to be dressed appropriately as it is a religious place. It is a must visit if you are passing through Kandy.

Please follow the dress code. Security will not allow drunk people. Also, Do not carry plastic bags. Use paper-based products to take flowers. I prefer to visit in the morning on regular days. Public Holidays and weekends may get lots of pilgrims. It's a nice place to see the Buddhist culture and architecture of the Kandy Kingdom (1469–1815)
