Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Centro Storico Associazione Centro Storico and Acqua e Sale - Stabilimento Balneare. Get a sense of the local culture at Colosseum and Pantheon. Take a break from Rome with a short trip to Sabbianera Super Beach in Anguillara Sabazia, about 46 minutes away. The adventure continues: steep yourself in history at St. Peter's Basilica, wander the streets of Trastevere, and make a trip to Trevi Fountain.

Philosopher Cicero once described Syracuse as "the greatest Greek city and the most beautiful of them all." A powerful city-state of ancient Greece, Syracuse now is the capital of the eponymous Italian province on the eastern coast of Sicily.
Visiting Riserva Naturale Orientata Oasi faunistica di Vendicari and Spiaggia Calamosche will get you outdoors. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Spiaggia di Punta Cirica and Lido Isola Verde. Take a break from Syracuse with a short trip to Monastero del San salvatore in Noto, about 44 minutes away. There's more to do: step off the mainland to explore Ortigia and enjoy the sand and surf at Lido Le Nereidi.
