Queenstown

— 3 nights

Shallow Bay

Sheltered in an inlet of Lake Wakatipu, the resort town of Queenstown enjoys a strong reputation for its adventuring and skiing opportunities.
On the 3rd (Tue), dedicate a day to the elevated beauty of The Remarkables Ski Area. There's still lots to do: relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, push the limits with an extreme tour, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Coronet Peak, and get your game on at Skyline Queenstown.

To find other places to visit, maps, ratings, and tourist information, go to the Queenstown trip planning website.

If you are flying in from Australia, the closest major aiport is Queenstown International Airport. Cap off your sightseeing on the 5th (Thu) early enough to catch the flight to Christchurch.

Garden City

Recovering from the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011 was no easy task, but Christchurch has faced the challenges with aplomb.
Get out of town with these interesting Christchurch side-trips: Little River Gallery (in Little River), Black Diamond Safaris (in Methven) and Akaroa (Dolphin & Whale Watching & French Peak Wines). On the 5th (Thu), spend the day riding on TranzAlpine Train. The adventure continues: admire the natural beauty at Christchurch Botanic Gardens, take an in-depth tour of Canterbury Museum, take in the pleasant sights at Banks Peninsula, and meet the residents at Willowbank Wildlife Reserve.
