An old castle town largely unspoiled during World War II, Kanazawa features well-preserved architecture spread across a range of districts.
Attractions like Gongenmori Beach and Chirihama Nagisa Driveway make great kid-friendly stops. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Kanazawa: Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum (in Katsuyama) and Shirakawa-mura (Shirakawago Gassho Zukuri Minkaen & The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go Gassho Style Houses). The adventure continues: stroll around Kenrokuen Garden, step into the grandiose world of Kanazawa Castle, contemplate the long history of Nomura Family Samurai House, and take a stroll through Higashichaya Old Town.

Montreal, Canada to Kanazawa is an approximately 18.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of train and flight. You can take a train from Kanazawa to Kyoto in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Expect a bit warmer weather when traveling from Kanazawa in August: highs in Kyoto hover around 39°C, while lows dip to 29°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 16th (Fri) early enough to catch the train to Hiroshima.
