The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.Kick off your visit on the 21st (Fri): browse the different shops at JR Hakata City Amu Plaza Hakata, then don't miss a visit to Yatai, and then tour the pleasant surroundings at Ohori Park. Here are some ideas for day two: buy something for everyone on your list at Tenjin Underground Shopping Center and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Dazaifu Tenman-gu.
