The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Visit Mimurotoji Temple and Honen-in for their historical value. Step off the beaten path and head to Mii-dera Temple (Onjo-ji Temple) and Kyoto Gyoen National Garden. When in Kyoto, make a side trip to see Ishiyamadera Temple in Otsu, approximately Otsu away. The adventure continues: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Daimonji, take a stroll through Shinbashi Dori, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Jonangu Shrine.

Onna-son

Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Visiting Diamond Beach and Okuma Beach will get you outdoors. Nakijin Castle Ruins and Okinawa Peace Memorial Park will appeal to history buffs. And it doesn't end there: kick back and relax at Nirai Beach, make a trip to Cape Maeda, see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, and head outdoors with Manza Beach.

Miyakojima

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Yabiji and Nagamahama Beach Coast. Get outdoors at Kayaking & Canoeing and Tomori Imugya Beach.
