Eternal City

Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Get some cultural insight at Colosseum and Vatican Museums. Galleria Borghese and Sistine Chapel will appeal to museum buffs. Take a break from Rome with a short trip to Villa Adriana in Tivoli, about 36 minutes away. There's still lots to do: don't miss a visit to Piazza Navona, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Church of St. Louis of the French, explore the ancient world of Forum of Augustus, and contemplate the long history of Palatine Hill.

To find traveler tips, photos, other places to visit, and more tourist information, go to the Rome day trip planner.

If you are flying in from Ireland, the closest major aiports are Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport and Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi – Umbria International Airport. Expect a daytime high around 26°C in October, and nighttime lows around 15°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Fri) so you can travel back home.
