Eternal City

Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Get some cultural insight at Colosseum and Piazza Navona. Vatican Museums and Musei Capitolini will appeal to museum buffs. Take a break from Rome with a short trip to Villa Adriana in Tivoli, about 36 minutes away. There's lots more to do: pause for some serene contemplation at Pantheon, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sistine Chapel, make a trip to St. Peter's Basilica, and admire the local landmark of Trevi Fountain.

To find reviews, other places to visit, ratings, and other tourist information, refer to the Rome online day trip planner.

If you are flying in from Ireland, the closest major aiports are Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport and Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi – Umbria International Airport. Expect a daytime high around 26°C in October, and nighttime lows around 15°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Fri) to allow enough time to travel back home.
