Pearl of the Danube

You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Do your shopping at Andrassy Avenue and Corvin Plaza. Your inner history buff will appreciate Fisherman's Bastion and Liberty Statue. There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Matthias Church, pick up some local products at Central Market Hall, stroll around Margaret Island, and get a sense of history and politics at Hungarian Parliament Building.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiport is Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport. In August, daytime highs in Budapest are 82°F, while nighttime lows are 60°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel back home.
