Eternal City

Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Museum-lovers will appreciate Vatican Museums and Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia. Your inner history buff will appreciate Colosseum and Piazza Navona. Get out of town with these interesting Rome side-trips: Tivoli (Villa Adriana & Villa d'Este). There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at St. Peter's Basilica, admire the local landmark of Trevi Fountain, get to know the fascinating history of Centro Storico Associazione Centro Storico, and pause for some serene contemplation at Santa Maria della Vittoria.

If you are flying in from Malta, the closest major aiports are Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport and Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi – Umbria International Airport. In December, daily temperatures in Rome can reach 16°C, while at night they dip to 4°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Tue) to allow enough time to travel back home.
