Eternal City

Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Museum-lovers will appreciate Vatican Museums and Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia. Your inner history buff will appreciate Colosseum and Palatine Hill. Get out of town with these interesting Rome side-trips: Tivoli (Villa Adriana & Villa d'Este). Next up on the itinerary: make a trip to St. Peter's Basilica, ponder the design of Trevi Fountain, explore the world behind art at Galleria Borghese, and steep yourself in history at Roman Forum.

If you are flying in from Malta, the closest major aiports are Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport and Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi – Umbria International Airport. Expect a daytime high around 16°C in December, and nighttime lows around 4°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Tue) early enough to travel back home.
