Eternal City

Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Colosseum and Piazza Navona are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Pantheon and Villa Adriana. Change things up with a short trip to Villa d'Este in Tivoli (about 48 minutes away). There's still lots to do: admire the masterpieces at Vatican Museums, don't miss a visit to Trevi Fountain, contemplate the long history of St. Peter's Basilica, and stroll the grounds of Catacombs of Saint Callixtus.

If you are flying in from Belgium, the closest major aiports are Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport and Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi – Umbria International Airport. In August in Rome, expect temperatures between 38°C during the day and 24°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 12th (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
