City of Yatai

The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Get some historical perspective at Hakozaki Shrine and Kokura Castle. Discover out-of-the-way places like Kanmon Kaikyo and Nanzoin. Venture out of the city with trips to Kitakyushu (Mekari Shrine, Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History & Human History, &more). And it doesn't end there: take an in-depth tour of Fukuoka City Museum, stroll around Maizuru Park, step off the mainland to explore Shika Island, and get a taste of the local shopping with Acros Fukuoka.
