At The Karen Blixen Museum, see the room where the author of the novel "Out of Africa," lived most of her life. The family estate that belonged to her father is preserved as a bird sanctuary in keeping with the writer's wishes. Find out more about the artist from a documentary exhibit on her life and work, which features original scripts, drawings, and paintings as well as biographies and letters. The museum also houses a library, a film screening room, a cafe, a shop, and an auditorium used for lectures and special exhibitions. You'll find the writer's burial plot under a huge old beech tree in the garden. Make The Karen Blixen Museum part of your personalized Rungsted itinerary using our Rungsted trip itinerary tool.

  • I think it is well worth the visit if you are interested in late 19th and early 20h Century Danish history (including the way of life and interior decorating), writers and reading, women who lived interesting and unusual lives, or Africa. The museum is at the home of Karen Blixen, a famous personality and author who lived in colonial Kenya. I took the train from Copenhagen (I went from Nørrebro station) to Rungsted Kyst Station, and then walked. It is only about a 1 kilometre walk along partially marked trails through woods. I posted two routes I took on Wikiloc. Go there and search Rungsted Kyst Karen Blixen museum, and you will probably find them. The hardest aspect of going by train for me was understanding what I was buying, because the train ticket machines were mainly in Danish even if you selected English.
  • The museum is nice, you see Blixens home preserved. The real treat is the park, with flowers and wild old forest, well worth it. And the coffee in the restaurant is Excellent!!
