One of the seven hills of Rome, Colle Capitolino represents the heart of the historical city. Once the citadel of the first Roman settlements, today the hill has transformed into the grounds of the Capitoline Museum, home to important Roman artifacts. Atop the hill, admire views of the city down below. Due to the medieval and Renaissance palaces built around the piazza, few ruins of the ancient temples remain. Spend some time in the piazza, designed by Michelangelo, to get a feel for the historic significance of the site.
