Musei Capitolini, situated in a piazza designed by Michelangelo in 1536, helps visitors to appreciate the many layers of the city’s cultural heritage. This site is actually a group of art and archaeological museums, housed inside palaces recognized as some of the city’s finest examples of medieval architecture. The history of the museums can be traced to the 15th century, when Pope Sixtus IV donated a collection of ancient bronze sculptures to the people of Rome and installed them here. Since then, the museums’ collection has grown to include a large number of ancient Roman, Greek, and Egyptian statues, as well as inscriptions, jewels, medals, mosaics, and coins. The museums’ extensive compendium of art includes a huge number of medieval and Renaissance works, including masterpieces by Bernini and Caravaggio, among many others. There’s so much to see here, one visit may not be enough. The ticket office is situated in the piazza, but you can also book your tickets online. This museum is huge!! What a beautiful place with outstanding exhibits. We did this in the late afternoon, but I wish that we did it earlier so we weren't so tired from the rest of our day's activities. We didn't do a guided tour, and I wish we had more information/education since there is so much here. They do give you a map which was helpful, but we could've used more knowledge about the significant pieces that are here. Regardless of how you visit, you should definitely visit if you're in Rome. We paid 17€ per ticket and went at 1630 on a Wednesday. It wasn't crazy busy, but there were definitely still quite a bit of people.

10/5! If you have time make sure to walk by this museum, it will take you around two hours to walk it through. There are incredible exhibitions dating back thousands of years (as anyone would expect 🤣). I will just post some pictures to try and paint the picture of what can be seen there. Entrance is around 12 or 15 euros if you want to wait in line (which can be long) or you can pay extra in the agency nearby (or online) and skip the line. Then it’s around 30 euros.
