Throw a coin over your left shoulder into Trevi Fountain, the legend claims, and you are sure to eventually return to the city. Undoubtedly one of the most photographed sites in the city, the fountain was designed by architect Nicola Salvi and built in 1762. Standing at 26 m (86 ft) high and 49 m (161 ft) wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city. Fans of Italian cinema easily recognize this site, which has appeared in numerous notable films, including director Federico Fellini's famed "La Dolce Vita." What a beautiful fountain. I loved the statues , the history and throwing my loose change in the fountain for a hope of returning to beautiful Rome.

In my opinion the nicest of the usual tourist attractions, lovely little square & not too busy this time of year although I wonder in the summer if you could get anywhere near it. As you can see by the photo there is nice little bars around the plaza to watch the world go by & not overpriced. Lost a star because of the overflowing bins & rubbish on the floor around the fountain, needs bigger bins or more regular clean ups but overall a nice spot.

Just about everything in Rome is beautiful and the Trevi Fountain is no different. We ended up here on New Year's Eve and decided to brave the crowd to throw some coins in. As one of our tour guides mentioned, wherever there is a hole with water, people will throw coins in. Anyway, we had fun. It's a nice place to feel goofy for a minute in-between tours.
