Create an itinerary including Fukuyama Castle
Visit Fukuyama Castle, one of the greatest castles of the Edo Period. Originally built in the early 17th century, this six-story castle was rebuilt in 1966 because it was mostly destroyed by air raids during World War II. The castle was once surrounded by a double moat, but unfortunately today that has been replaced by pavement. While the castle housed many notable families throughout its history, it now serves as a museum. It's worthwhile to hire a local guide when visiting the museum in order to learn about the significance of different exhibits. • I've seen many castles in Japan and the Fukuyama Castle is up there as one of the more interesting and beautiful ones. The castle is right next to the train station, so no excuses for not visiting...

  • Closed for seismic and museum renovation (it says closed until aug 2022). But you can still walk around the area and get castle stamp.
  • A castle with beautiful view. It is located right next to the station, very convenient to visit. There are many ancient maps showing the lands owned by the previous lord in the exhibition area, which is quite interesting to read. Worth visiting the castle if you are visiting Fukuyama.
