Take in the dramatic angles of Gojuno To, a red-lacquered, five-story pagoda perched on a hilltop. Built in the early 15th century, the structure represents a picturesque example of traditional Japanese architecture--including the position of the rafters and decorative caps on the railings. You can also see some Chinese influence, in the rafter tails and pillars supporting the eaves. Standing at 27.6 m (90.5 ft), its impressive stature is visible all over the town, and said to be one of only five of its kind in the country. You'll need to climb some steps to reach its base, and those with mobility issues may find this a challenge.
