Featuring a narrow strip of coarse yellow sand, Mikasahama Beach offers views of a "floating" torii, the famous sacred red gate of the Itsukushima sanctuary. During the day, there is hardly enough room on the sand to spread a couple of towels, but as the day goes by and the tide recedes, more people come to the beach to stroll along the shore and enjoy picturesque sunset views across the water to the Japanese mainland.
