Create an itinerary including D. T. Suzuki Museum
Explore peaceful and thoughtfully designed spaces while becoming acquainted with a world-renowned Buddhist philosopher at D. T. Suzuki Museum. In a modern and minimalist setting conceived by architect Taniguchi Yoshio, explore the work and philosophies of Suzuki, who was instrumental in bringing Eastern ideas into mainstream Western thought. Investigate the three buildings arranged around a tranquil central pond, including the Contemplative Wing, dedicated solely to peaceful reflection. Its four open walls reveal the surrounding pond, while its hard lines and unembellished aspect inspire meditative introspection. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to D. T. Suzuki Museum by using our Kanazawa trip planner.

  • This is a small but very elegant museum dedicated to the life and work of Daisetsu Teitaro Suzuki. He introduced Zen Buddhism to the west. It is not a big museum and you can not see much. But...

  • My ryokan host said this was his favourite museum. It’s a lively contemplative place where you can also sit and read special books. I loved its water pool. Very good English interpretations. Best...

  • Great concept for a museum, the structure allows for a lot of freedom and the content can be explored freely with any kind of depth depending on interest and curiosity. On a sunny day, the outdoor area is stunning and the contemplative space is great for sitting down and letting the mind go free. It's an essential stop for visitors passing through Kanazawa, regardless of previous knowledge about DT Suzuki or Zen Buddhism.
  • Nice place that is visual. Small museum tho. More for a quick hit.
