One of New Zealand's premier cultural centers, Otago Museum boasts a vast and varied collection of science and humanities exhibits from home and abroad. Many visitors begin their tour with the Southern Land, Southern People collection, where they can learn about the natural history of Otago and view the country's largest fossil specimen. Galleries covering subjects such as Maori heritage, Pacific cultures, and the maritime history of the region help give you a better understanding of this corner of the world. For something from farther afield, head to the People of the World collection, where Islamic ceramics, Indian armor, and classical coins are all on display. Those with kids won't want to miss the museum's interactive science center, home to a tropical rainforest environment filled with colorful butterflies. Easily one or the best museums in New Zealand. Always seeing something new each time I go. Animal attic is my favourite, and the butterflies are amazing !

What an amazing place this is. We enjoyed the PLANETARIUM shows (yes we went to 3 and if time allowed would have achieved 4! So next time. The children loved TŪHURA SCIENCE CENTRE and even us adults enjoyed it to (including the slide). The butterfly room was great reminded us of the Singapore one. Highly recommend and the cafe wasn't too bad either (not brilliant but not terrible).
