Toitu Otago Settlers Museum
Take a journey through the history of Dunedin, following its progress from the earliest communities to the modern city, at Toitu Otago Settlers Museum. The oldest history museum in New Zealand, it houses extensive collections of items that depict everything from the area's Maori culture and history to the inventions of the information era that changed everyday life in the city. The exhibits of arms, uniforms, and other items display the impact that global events such as World War I had on the area. A gallery proudly showcases the works of local artists who helped establish Dunedin as one of New Zealand's main cultural hubs. Admission to the museum is free and guided tours are available once a day at an additional cost. Plan my Dunedin trip by asking Inspirock to come up with tips and suggestions.

Great collections of historical value. Staff are very pleasant. Great stop for visitors as you can leave your bags at the reception. 45 minutes may be enough to look around the museum. They also have a nice Cafe and gift shop by the entrance. If you are done enjoying the arts and history here, this museum is literally beside the Railway on one side and the Chinese Gardens on the other.
