Create an itinerary including Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan
Admire the traditional design and reverential atmosphere at Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan, a Buddhist temple located in Chiang Mai's historical center. King Saen Muang Ma initiated construction in the 14th century, intending to bury his father's ashes here. The project wasn't completed until the mid 15th century, and since then the temple has been rebuilt, refurbished, and redesigned on numerous occasions. Originally three separate temple areas, the sites were joined up to create the place of worship you see today, making it an area of impressive scale as well as architecture. Visit the grounds to discover its interesting and volatile history; look for the replica of the famous Emerald Buddha once housed here and the city pillar surrounded by three dipterocarp trees. Our Chiang Mai trip itinerary tool makes visiting Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan and other Chiang Mai attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • We liked the temple very much as it was very majestic and beautiful. The Chedi (pagoda) was partially destroyed during an earthquake many years ago, but most parts of the structure still remained...

  • Definitely worth a visit and a walk around. I suppose it was slightly different from some of the other temples because it had the huge stone monument which was good to look at oi oi.

  • Nice old temple in center of city inside moat. Pretty old and crumbling down after centuries of earthquakes but still active temple with monks in saffron coloured robes and peaceful to visit on a hot day. Roads outside can be quite stressful with all the hustle and bustle, but here is nice. Very old so interesting historically and if you are into Buddhism. It's quite extensive inside the property. Many little side chapels.
  • Beautiful temple. + Old style temple with beautiful statues on top. + The Pagodas on the back are also extremely well maintained. + Ambience - overall very peaceful walk.
