Housed in the painter's town of Haarlem, Frans Hals Museum represents the largest repository of the famed Dutch artist's works in the world. Spending most of his life in Holland, Hals specialized in leaving his paintings with a "rough" finish. Visit the museum and peruse its collection of more than 750 paintings and works spread out over numerous galleries and exhibitions. Inspect Hals' "loose brushwork" up-close to fully appreciate the sense of life and movement it brought to his art, perhaps his most notable trademark. You can listen to an audio tour, included in your admission, or download the museum's smartphone app for more in-depth information along the way. Don't miss seeing the facility's collection of religious artwork and Haarlem-related artifacts also on display. Work out when and for how long to visit Frans Hals Museum and other Haarlem attractions using our handy Haarlem trip itinerary maker app.

Great insight into the art and culture of Haarlem. The presentation of the Frans Hals shooter pieces is so impressive. There are so many wonderful portraits to enjoy.

Beautiful museum that I visited during ‘Museum in Bloom’ exhibition. You can admire here various paintings from the Dutch Golden Age era as well as furniture, ceramics, glass and silver. The art and interior was looking amazing with live flowers arranged through the whole museum. Children really enjoyed watching the Doll House. The patio is very beautiful with many benches and tables. Also the cafe is a great addition (the terrace is a reall hidden gem, especially when it’s sunny). I’d not recommend visiting it with little children (up to 3-4 year old) as I was asked to hold my little one by hand at all times. It was fine, but not really easy or handy.

Great deep dive in Frans Hals. Was pleasantly surprised that while he's the feature, there's lots of space devoted to his contemporaries and even a few modern artists as well. The galleries are well laid out and spacious. The historic building itself is very an apt setting. I'm sure the courtyard must be beautiful in the summer months.
