Eternal City

Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Get some cultural insight at Colosseum and Vatican Museums. There's lots more to do: don't miss a visit to St. Peter's Basilica, get engrossed in the history at Musei Capitolini, admire the local landmark of Trevi Fountain, and appreciate the extensive heritage of Piazza Navona.

For other places to visit, where to stay, photos, and more tourist information, go to the Rome trip builder tool.

If you are flying in from The Netherlands, the closest major aiports are Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport and Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi – Umbria International Airport. Expect a daytime high around 26°C in October, and nighttime lows around 15°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 4th (Sat) so you can travel back home.
