Rome — 4 nights

Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Museum-lovers will appreciate Vatican Museums and Musei Capitolini. Your inner history buff will appreciate Colosseum and Palatine Hill. Get out of town with these interesting Rome side-trips: Tivoli (Villa Adriana & Villa d'Este). And it doesn't end there: take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. Peter's Basilica, admire the local landmark of Trevi Fountain, admire the masterpieces at Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia, and appreciate the extensive heritage of Centro Storico Associazione Centro Storico.

For ratings, traveler tips, where to stay, and other tourist information, refer to the Rome road trip planning site.
